Developed in the 1930’s and 40’s, adjacent to the Del Mar Neighborhood, the Six Points Commercial Center provided the ability to shop, work and live in the same district. Subsequent development patterns fostered a period of decline for this mixed-use district.

This urban design project included pedestrian improvements and landscaping in the Six Points district. Roadway widths were reduced and median planters were created to reduce the speed of traffic in the area. Improvements were made to the sidewalks and crosswalks to enhance accessibility. Shade trees and native and xeriscape landscaping were added throughout the district to provide a better pedestrian environment. The resulting project has reinforced Six Points commercial center identity and has stimulated economic revitalization.

Landscape and identity elements were designed be compatible with the streamline- moderne style of the buildings in the district.

Generous planting beds and ornamental and shade trees provide a buffer between pedestrians and the street.
