Architect's Studio
  • 2002 Corpus Christi AIA Merit Award

Located in an early 1950's International Style building, the lease space has panoramic views of downtown Corpus Christi, the Port of Corpus Christi and Corpus Christi Bay.
The goal was to create a fun modern office and design studio environment with reception area, conference room, a team workspace, private offices, and library and support spaces on a limited budget. With minimal changes to walls, a procession of spaces was developed, framing views to the Harbor Bridge, downtown, and the bay.
A neutral color palette of blonde maple, grey, black, and silver was used throughout, with bright archways marking the gateways into and out of the workspace. The concrete floors were stained a deep copper color and waxed to a glossy luster. Heavily-textured ceilings were sanded and re-floated to a smooth finish, and energy-efficient lighting was added throughout.

The original 2” blinds were retained to emphasize the horizontal wall of aluminum windows. Doors were painted silver with a milky white glaze, simulating a galvanized metal finish.

A black and white photo-triptych of Corpus Christi, black lacquer courthouse chairs, charcoal-colored cabinets, and a silver pendent fixture carry the neutral color scheme into the conference room.
